Amsterdam: What to See

Amsterdam welcomes over three and a half million visitors each year, making it one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations. The city, which is the joint capital of the Netherlands, is home to about three-quarters of a million people. It is also the cultural centre of the country and has more square metres of museum space than any city in the world.

What to see? While on vacation in Amsterdam there are several must see historical sites. The most popular tourist attractions include: the house of Anne Frank, the Van Gogh Museum and the Old Canals. Of course, we would be remiss if we did not mention the popular Red Light District that offers legal prostitution and cannabis.

Getting around Amsterdam is a cinch. The city actually has more bicycles (1 million) than it does people, so there is rarely any traffic. However, finding a place to stay in the city can be a bit more challenging. As we mentioned, Amsterdam welcomes an impressive number of tourists each year and the hotels tend to fill up quite quickly. In fact, the current occupation rate is well over 80 per cent. That is why many travellers choose to stay in Amsterdam Rentals rather than hotels.

Vacation rentals have long been a popular option with tourists who want to avoid the crowded hotels and also save a little money. On average, a vacation rental is forty per cent cheaper than a comparable hotel room. There are also many exciting options from which to choose.

Guests can rent a regular flat, a home, a villa, even a houseboat. That’s right! Imagine staying in Amsterdam on a cosy houseboat with a breathtaking view of the Old Canals. And since occupation rates are lower than the hotels, it should not be a chore to locate the appropriate accommodation.
